Services
I design experiences for culture, heritage, and landscape.
These elements may appear independently or in combination, shaping exhibitions, programmes, places, digital platforms, and hybrid experiences.
My work focuses on how people encounter, understand, and connect with culture and heritage, and how those encounters create lasting value for audiences.
Research & analysis
Understanding the experience, the audience, and the wider context
Every project begins with understanding how an experience is currently encountered, and the context in which it sits.
I examine how culture, heritage, and/or landscape are experienced today, how audiences engage, and where value is created or lost. I also look outward, at relevant cultural, experiential, and design trends, comparable projects, and the wider environment in which the experience operates.
This creates a grounded understanding of where the experience stands now, how it compares to others, and where meaningful opportunities exist.
This typically delivers
- A clear picture of the current experience
- Audience understanding and insight
- Overview of relevant trends, references, and comparators
- Identified gaps, tensions, and opportunities
Experience-led strategy
Defining a shared ambition
This phase is about imagining what the experience could become.
It is about setting a point on the horizon that is ambitious enough to be worth pursuing, and clear enough to be discussed and refined together. Strategy and vision create a common language for talking about the future experience, making ideas tangible rather than abstract.
I help articulate what we are aiming for, why it matters, and what kind of experience we want to create for people. This work does not lock solutions in place, but provides a clear sense of direction that guides decisions as the project evolves.
This typically delivers
- A clear experience ambition and vision
- A shared language for discussing the future experience
- Agreed goals and principles to guide development
- Direction that can be tested, challenged, and refined
Concept development
Exploring how the experience takes shape
Concept development is where ambition turns into something you can see, discuss, and test.
I develop concrete experience concepts that show how culture, heritage, and landscape could be encountered. These concepts describe what people do, what they encounter, and how the experience unfolds over time.
Concepts are explored through scenarios, simple prototypes, and early representations that allow teams to test ideas, compare options, and make informed choices before committing to detailed design.
This typically delivers
- Clear experience concepts
- Scenarios showing how people move through the experience
- Early prototypes or mock-ups to test ideas
- A shared basis for decision-making and next steps
Spatial experiences
Designing physical experiences, from direction to detail
When experiences take physical form, my role adapts to the project and the team in place. I can provide overall creative direction, or work in detail on spatial UX, experience structure, and content, depending on what is needed. This includes exhibitions, cultural environments, heritage sites, and landscape-based experiences.
I work closely with architects, exhibition designers, landscape architects, and specialists to shape how people move through space, how stories and content are organised, and how different elements come together as a coherent experience.
This typically delivers
- Creative and experience direction
- Exhibition and spatial experience design
- Exhibition narratives, scripts, and story structure
- Spatial UX and visitor flow design
- Content structure for exhibitions and physical environments
- Experience briefs for architects, designers, and specialists
- Design review and refinement through delivery
Digital experiences
From creative direction to working digital products
For digital experiences, I support the full journey from idea to functioning product.
My role may begin with defining the experience ambition and user value, and extend through detailed UX, structure, and content design for apps, websites, and platforms, whether standalone or integrated with physical experiences.
I work with designers, developers, and content teams to ensure that digital experiences are usable, coherent, and aligned with the overall experience, staying involved as concepts become real products.

- Creative and experience direction
- UX design for apps, websites, and platforms
- User journeys, flows, and information architecture
- Content structure and content requirements
- UX wireframes and functional descriptions
- Briefs and guidance for digital design and development

Working together
Projects can be short or long, exploratory or concrete. Some remain strategic, others move all the way into realised experiences. Often, they move back and forth.
The aim is always connection: with the past and the future. Sometimes that sparks excitement. Sometimes it deepens a bond, touches a nerve, or opens something unexpected.
